Vital Ministries is dedicated to spreading the gospel, seeing students respond by putting their faith in Christ and helping them grow in that relationship.
We want students involved in this ministry to become passionate, life long followers of Christ. This is a Ministry of First Baptist Church in Newton, IA.
Vital ministries is the Student Ministry of First Baptist Church of Newton, IA. Our desire is for students to know God in a real, personal way. We believe this is Vital. We desire that each student get their hearts right with God. Mark 12:29-31 (The Great (Vital) Commandment) [...] "'And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no greater commandment greater than these." We recognize that these are formative years where a student's lifestyle today is charting their course for tomorrow. As a group we want to set a course in pursuit of God and encourage lives lived for His Glory.
Authentic
We Desire to be real with our identity, problems, and victories. You can be who you really are when you come to Vital and when you leave - live one life
God Centered
We want our whole lives to be centered on God. Our desire is to see students let God take the lead and not try and lead Him. We need to be asking the question, "Is this a good thing or a God thing?"
Relevant
It's ok to be "in the world" but not "of it." Sports teams, skate parks, bands, and on are all things that God has given us to enjoy. We want to come along side our friends meeting them where they are and pointing them to our greatest joy - Christ!
Influential
Our world needs change and we desire to be a transformed people set out to influence families, schools, and the world. If we believe all the right things, say all the right words, and do no influence others, we have missed the point. Jesus says we re the salt and light of the world!
Zachary Kerns
Youth Pastor
This is Zach's second year of leading youth ministry at First Baptist and he loves what God is doing among the church; lives are being changed and He is getting the glory. Zach is married to the most amazing woman named Katie who also serves in different areas at First Baptist. He and his wife love ministering to teens and their families.
Zach became a Christian when he was a young kid and has enjoyed knowing God more and more since then. He graduated from Northwestern College in St. Paul, Minnesota in Youth Ministry. He is a self proclaimed techy and loves to work with techology. His passion is to Glorify God in everything and see others do the same. Love God. Love Others
This ministry is dedicated to helping students develop in their relationship with God. Discipleship is a key aspect of this particular area of ministry. We want to see High School Students make a life long decision to follow Christ and grow deeper in their relationship with Him. Love God. Love Others.
This area of ministry is focused on getting students to get to know Christ and see them come into a relationship with Him. We want to see these students have an understanding of why the Gospel is important and how it affects their lives. Our pray is to see many students come into relationship with Christ in this ministry that we may disciple them through their Sr. High years.
